FAQs

What’s generally covered for snow holidays under a travel insurance policy?

The level of cover and exclusions will vary depending on which insurer you’re looking at, so it’s always important to read the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) before you buy a policy.

Generally, in addition to all the stuff usually covered by a standard policy, travel insurance cover should also include things like hospital and medical costs for winter sports incidents that occur overseas, emergency rescue and medical evacuation back to Australia, ski equipment hire if your luggage is lost or stolen and compensation if your pre-booked resort is closed due to bad weather conditions.

Read “Understanding a policy” for more detail on the kind of cover you should look for when choosing a travel insurance policy for your snow holiday.

What’s generally not covered for snow holidays under a travel insurance policy?

As you’d expect, any accidents that occur as a result of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol will unlikely be covered by your policy. Nor will skiing or snowboarding off-piste (outside resort boundaries), travelling out of season or undertaking high risk activities, such as competitive skiing, cat skiing, mountaineering or bob sleighing.

Exclusions vary between insurers, so be sure to check the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) carefully to see what you might not be covered for.

Read “What’s not covered” for more information on policy exclusions.
